How to Help Rescue

Nikki-01We work with the local shelters and animal services to save dogs that have run out of time or aren’t readily adoptable. Once we get the dogs out of the shelter, we need help in a variety of ways. If you are interested in helping Alpha Dog Rescue of Northern California, you can contact us by email, phone, or snail mail—or come meet us at one of our adoption events!

Adopt

Our goal is to find a good home for every dog. If you have looked at Available Dogs and found one who might be a match, read our How to Adopt page. There you’ll find our adoption policies, procedures, and forms. Adopting is the best way to help!

Volunteer

We need people to help with all kinds of tasks! If you can help a little or a lot, we can find a place to use your time and talents. Our dogs will thank you personally at our events!

For example, you could help with:

  • Adoption counseling (working with potential adopters)
  • Attending adoption events
  • Fostering a dog
  • Fundraising—we need to feed and maintain our dogs, pay vets, buy supplies, and cover a few administrative expenses (but we’re a cheap date)
  • Marketing and publicity
  • Posting on Facebook
  • Transporting dogs

Foster

Aldo-Wade-050115-495x478Without foster homes, we can’t save dogs. All of our dogs go into foster homes, where they have a safe, caring place to stay while they are in transition to their permanent homes. We especially need foster homes that have experience with the large, confident herding and working breeds that we mostly work with.

For regular foster homes, we provide instruction and support, pay the foster dog’s vet bills (at our vets only), and we provide food, leash, collar, and an ID tag. We can also provide a crate if needed. If you can supply some of these items yourself, all the better; that helps us stretch our resources.

Fostering a rescue dog can be one of the most fulfilling experiences you will ever have. We have volunteers who have fostered more than 100 dogs!

Donate!

Our rescue dogs need vaccinations and other preventive care, and some need more extensive treatment. One rare occasions, we need to board a dog in a commercial kennel. Since our adoption fee covers less than half of our costs per dog, we need revenue from other sources. Checks, cash, and dog supplies are always helpful. Please contact us!
